We will even “paint” our own edible “global warming toast!!”But, before we begin, join our Facebook Group and “like” our Facebook Page, so you won’t miss out on any of our educational fun!

🧪 Earth Day Science Experiments
There are so many fantastic Earth Day science experiments for kids to try! Many of them you can do with stuff already in your home!
- My absolute favorite earth day science experiment is growing these wheatgrass seeds on clear waterbeads!!! It is fun and looks pretty to have around your house! Plus, nothing celebrates Earth Day like growing a plant (and even those of you with a “black thumb” can make this work… wheatgrass is super easy to grow!!!). Check this out!
- In our Human Body Lesson Plan, I told you that having a supply of felt on hand is useful! You can make your own layers of the earth felt puzzle here.
- Make it rain by using a glass jar, hot water and ice cubes in this experiment.
- Learn about water pollution and setup your own water treatment / filtration factory using a plastic bin, soil, plastic tubing and a coffee filter in this experiment.
- Explore different sources of power by making the coolest balloon squid that uses wind power here!
- Any excuse to make oobleck slime, and we are in!!! Here is an earth day goop / oobleck / slime recipe that is perfectly blue and green for our theme!
- If you have a ziploc bag and some water, you can learn about the water cycle with this project.
- Another fun idea is to make recycle paper like this.
- Or you can go back to basics and do this simple soil experiment using pH paper.
- Build a desert biome in a glass jar!
- No time to do a full on science experiment? This website is so incredibly well done for educating our kids about the water cycle and the importance of water conservation. Or play this game on cleaning up plastic from our ocean!
📚 Earth Day Reading & Worksheets
Kindergarten – 2nd Grade: The absolute BEST Earth Day book of all time is The Lorax by Dr. Seuss! If you do not have it, you NEED it!!! Here are some other Earth Day reading activities too.
- My kids LOVE reading jokes! Here is a great list of earth day jokes for kids!
- Read this online book about Drippy the Raindrop, but make sure to click on the “hand” to the right of “Next page”… that part was a little bit confusing!
- Play this fun word scramble game created by the EPA.
- Do this free, printable, water conservation word search!
- Make your own Earth Day simple reading book with this free printable!

- Read some fantastic articles from the United Nations on climate change, ecosystems, water issues and more.
- You can also work on this word scramble created by Texas A&M University.
- PBS put together this great water conservation lesson plan, which is technically for grades 6-8, but I bet some younger kids can handle it!
✏ Earth Day Writing Prompts & Free Workbooks
Kindergarten – 2nd Grade: Pick from the following free, printable human body writing worksheets.
- These amazing Earth Day worksheet bundles cover math, reading, writing and fun! Plus, there are even preschool and toddler options for our younger siblings!
3rd – 5th Grade: Pick one of these Earth Day writing prompts to complete.
- What are three ways that you could do more to recycle at home or at school?
- Why is it important to recycle?
- What alternate fuels exist and how do they help the earth?
- How can technology be used to help the environment?
- Why is it important to take care of the Earth? What do you appreciate about it?
- Write a letter to your grandchildren explaining the importance of protecting the environment and what you currently do to help!
🧮 Earth Day Math Worksheets & Games
- Use this water usage worksheet to record and calculate how much water you use over the course of a week and even a month! Or for our younger ones, who have not quite mastered multiplication yet, you can do this worksheet online and it will calculate the total amounts of water used automatically for you!
- Play this game to learn how much water it takes to make various different commodities like a cup of tea, a bag of potato chips or an egg. Since the answers are given in liters, it would be a fun math exercise to convert that amount into other measurements (like gallons, cups, etc.).
- Here is a great activity for learning about fractions on Earth Day. And here is another one about equivalent fractions!
- While this isn’t exactly math, it is a great game for strengthening your memory with some water conservation inspiration. Even preschoolers will like this one!
- Want some free Earth Day math worksheets? Here are a TON of them, separated by the topic they cover! I tried to organize them from easiest to hardest too!

- Learn what a carbon footprint is and make one of your own here!
- Learn how a globe maker combines traditional and modern techniques to create a 17th century globe at the Science Museum. This is a really cool combination of science and art!
🥣 Earth Day Recipes
I love to incorporate recipes and fun food ideas into lesson plans! Make these Earth Pudding Cups as a fun treat with your kids. All you need is pudding, coconut, oreos, mini marshmallows and food coloring! If you do not have all of these ingredients, just be creative! There are loads of different ways to do this… here is another one for inspiration.
🤸♀️ Earth Day Kids Workout Exercise
Checkout this Earth Day movement song for kids! Or just go outside, run around and enjoy nature!!!
And the most fun part… share a photo or video of your Earth Day science experiments, your Earth Day art projects or your other Earth Day Projects on Facebook! Make sure to include a link to this website or to our Facebook Group and Facebook Page, so that we can see it too! I’ve purposefully added a lot of options for parents who need to keep their kiddos occupied for more time and to allow you to cater to your children’s preferences.
