Everything tastes better when it is rainbow colored! Robyn Green, an amazing mama, gave us permission to share her technique for dying the most vividly colored spaghetti that I have ever seen! Before we begin, don’t forget to join our Facebook Group and “like” our Facebook Page, so you won’t miss out on any of our fun kids activities!
I mean look at that?!? Show me a kid who would not be excited to eat that!!!
How to Dye Spaghetti
Robyn Green said that her kids were most impressed! All you do is cook the spaghetti (or any shape of pasta for that matter) as you would normally. I personally shortened the cooking time by just a smidge, since the pasta sits in warm water during the dying process. After it is cooked, split the pasta up into different bowls (or pots! frankly, any vessel you have on hand will work!). Make sure to add a little bit of the cooking water to each bowl as well, as you can see in the photo above.
Now for the fun part! Add different food coloring dye to the cooking of each bowl. Let the pasta sit in the colored water until it is the shade you want. Then rinse the spaghetti and serve to your smiling, happy children, who will likely tell you that you are the most amazing chef EVER!
Of course, you can serve the rainbow pasta any way you prefer. A few ideas include pesto, marinara with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top, or even an alfredo sauce. You could even dye the alfredo sauce to make it especially colorful, though I am a purist about alfredo sauce being white!
